Accountabilities
- Provide operational and technical leadership across security operations initiatives, helping shape and continuously improve the security operations function.
- Design, build, deploy, and operate security software, platforms, and tooling that strengthen detection, monitoring, response, and remediation capabilities.
- Monitor security environments, identify emerging threats, investigate incidents, coordinate responses, and drive effective remediation.
- Assess existing security controls and recommend or implement improvements to strengthen the organisation’s overall security posture.
- Apply software engineering and site reliability principles to automate security processes and improve the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of security tooling.
- Mentor and support early-career Security Operations engineers, sharing technical expertise and helping them develop their capabilities.
- Plan, prioritise, and deliver security initiatives within an agile engineering framework.
- Collaborate across engineering and security teams to address complex technical challenges and improve organisational resilience.
- Contribute to the wider open source security ecosystem through technical projects, threat intelligence sharing, blog posts, whitepapers, research, or conference presentations.
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience, with substantial experience across cybersecurity and/or software engineering.
- Professional experience in security operations, ideally including experience working within or leading a Security Operations Center.
- Strong software engineering background with the ability to design and develop reliable security tools and platforms.
- Hands-on proficiency with scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
- Working knowledge of Git, GitOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of security operations, including security monitoring, threat hunting, incident response, remediation, and defensive security practices.
- Experience working with complex or high-impact security environments and the ability to respond effectively to sophisticated threats.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and mentoring skills, with the ability to provide technical leadership and influence others.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related discipline, or a compelling professional background demonstrating equivalent expertise.
- A strong record of academic, technical, or professional achievement and a genuine interest in open source security.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, or ISO 27001 is valued.
- Experience with security architecture, leading security tools, offensive or defensive security teams, advanced persistent threats, or additional programming languages such as Go is an advantage.
