Accountabilities:
- Own the end-to-end design and continuous evolution of the design system, covering foundations such as color, typography, spacing, iconography, motion, and complex interactive components.
- Build and maintain a scalable design-token architecture that connects design libraries with front-end implementation and promotes consistency across products.
- Define and document component specifications, usage guidelines, interaction patterns, accessibility requirements, and design rationale so engineering teams can implement solutions effectively.
- Partner closely with front-end engineers to develop reusable components that meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and align with modern component-based technologies.
- Audit existing product interfaces, identify inconsistencies, create component inventories, and establish prioritized roadmaps for design-system coverage and improvement.
- Collaborate with product designers across multiple teams to understand requirements, validate new patterns, and ensure the design system evolves around real product needs.
- Establish and maintain governance practices covering contributions, versioning, deprecation, change management, and communication to keep the system scalable and trusted.
- Champion accessibility and inclusive design by embedding accessible patterns directly into system components and design specifications.
- Drive adoption through enablement sessions, Figma documentation, guidance, and ongoing support for designers and developers.
- Contribute to the development of the design-systems function by mentoring junior designers, supporting hiring decisions, and helping define how design quality and system effectiveness are measured.
Requirements:
- 5–8 years of UX/UI design experience, including at least 3 years focused on design systems or design infrastructure, preferably within B2B SaaS or enterprise software.
- Demonstrated experience creating and scaling design systems, including component libraries, design tokens, contribution models, and governance frameworks.
- Expert proficiency with Figma, including component variants, Auto Layout, Variables/design tokens, interactive prototyping, and library management.
- Strong understanding of front-end implementation constraints and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers using HTML, CSS, and component-based frameworks such as React, Angular, or Web Components.
- Practical knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and experience embedding accessible design patterns into components from the specification stage.
- Experience establishing design-system governance, including versioning, deprecation workflows, contribution guidelines, and change communication.
- Strong documentation skills, with the ability to translate design intent into clear usage guidelines, annotated specifications, and decision rationale for engineering teams.
- Experience conducting UI audits, creating component inventories, and developing prioritized design-system roadmaps aligned with product and business objectives.
- Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to align designers and engineers around design-system decisions without relying on formal authority.
- Comfortable working with globally distributed teams across different time zones, working styles, and levels of design maturity.
- A degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- Strong communication, mentoring, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management abilities, with a proactive and systems-oriented approach.
Benefits:
- Remote-first flexibility with the opportunity to work from Brazil, United States or Canada.
- Full-time permanent employment with a global, distributed team.
- Competitive compensation, with the advertised range of $50,000–$145,000 USD depending on location, experience, and qualifications; local compensation details may apply.
- Potential eligibility for additional compensation, including bonuses or commissions.
- Comprehensive benefits package, subject to location and employment terms.
- Opportunity to work on a global SaaS product portfolio and influence design standards across multiple products.
- Strong opportunities for professional growth, mentoring, and leadership development.
- Collaborative culture emphasizing autonomy, flexibility, inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Opportunity to shape and grow a design-systems function with broad organizational impact.
