Head of AI

Accountabilities:

• Design, architect, and evolve scalable AI systems, including AI agents, LLM integrations, automation workflows, and RAG-based knowledge retrieval frameworks.
• Build and deploy production-ready AI solutions that integrate deeply into operational business processes and ERP environments.
• Collaborate directly with executive leadership to define AI strategy, identify automation opportunities, and align technology initiatives with business growth objectives.
• Lead by technical example through hands-on coding, system design, and implementation of event-driven architectures and intelligent automation pipelines.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing AI engineering team while fostering a fast-paced, execution-oriented engineering culture.
• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders to drive AI adoption across the organization and ensure practical, customer-focused outcomes.
• Establish scalable infrastructure, reliability standards, and best practices for AI system performance, maintainability, and security.
• Act as the internal AI expert, educating teams on the capabilities, limitations, and strategic applications of emerging AI technologies.
• Continuously evaluate customer workflows and market needs to deliver innovative solutions that solve real operational challenges.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Technical Founder, or similar senior technical leadership role in AI-driven environments.
• Strong expertise in backend architecture, distributed systems, API design, and scalable cloud-based infrastructure.
• Deep hands-on experience with LLM orchestration, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), automation systems, and data pipelines.
• Demonstrated ability to move rapidly from concept to production-ready implementation while maintaining a strong focus on business value and customer impact.
• Experience leading engineering teams through technical mentorship, hiring, and execution-focused leadership.
• Strong product mindset with the ability to connect technical innovation to commercial outcomes and operational efficiency.
• Comfortable working autonomously in fast-moving, high-ambiguity startup or scale-up environments.
• Fluency in both English and German is required.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to align cross-functional teams around AI initiatives.
• Passion for simplifying complex business processes through practical and scalable AI solutions.
